Google wave is finally dead.. The much hyped product from the so called “Google Labs “has finally been buried . With the demise of Google wave.. the writing on the wall for Google everywhere to see . It is increasingly becoming clearer is that apart from their jewel in the crown ” Google search.”. Google has been hurtling towards self destruction.
However the typical Google swagger is hard to leave.Google boss Eric Schmidt has labeled Google Wave, which the company just ditched, “a very clever product”. and something which was probably ahead of its time.In a classic PR lesson in face-saving, Schmidt tried to recast Wave’s failure as proof that the world’s largest ad broker was willing to live dangerously and they care two hoots even if their products fail to inspire users.
“Our policy is we try things,” he told
reporters, according to CNet’s Ina Fried.
We celebrate our failures. In Google is OK to try something that is very hard, have it not be successful, take the learning and apply it to something new.”Point Taken Eric.. but don’t you feel that you guys are celebrating too much .. In fact Google is celebrating 80% of the time ( google labs ) and working on what they do best 20% of the time, (search )in the same way how Google loves to flaunt their 20/80 concept.
Google wave is the latest of Google’s product failures. If we start analyzing the list of celebrations or product failures of Google ,Eric probably would party once a month instead of celebrating every other day.
Searchengineland’s Danny Sullivan has compiled all the Google’s celebration dates .Whether Google wants to celebrate more failures or build on their best product “Google Search” is an answer which we would only hope to get from Eric,Larry and Sergie..
